Bonus Round
An e-mail came out from the district today informing us that any incoming Math and Science teachers for next year will receive $3000 dollar bonuses. All returning Math and Science teachers will get a $2000 dollar retention bonus. Hey, I get it. We’re having our asses handed to us in those two areas and the administration needs to do everything we can to boost our results—except reduce class sizes, promote innovative teaching and owning up to the fact that attendance has been more emphasized than learning.
It’s just that it feels like everyone is getting bonuses, except English teachers. If you teach Math, you get a bonus. If you teach Science, you get a bonus. If you teach a foreign language or special education, then you get a bonus. I fear that next year will be that you get a bonus if you don’t teach English!
Of course, I’m just kidding. We don’t do this for the money. I am willing to negotiate, though. I’ll leave if you give me $1000. Any takers?
