Gone Too Soon
I’m not the only one who is excited about the end of the semester. As a matter of fact, there’s one student who I know is just as excited, if not more. Yesterday he announced to the class (without invitation to do so) that he couldn’t wait to be done with this “sucky” class and that he was never going to read “English crap” again. He was as celebratory as a man who was finishing up a twenty-year stretch for armed robbery and was sharing his future plans with the other inmates in the yard. Instead of having a steak dinner, though, this kid will be upping his Xbox 360 time from eight hours a day to fourteen during the holiday break.
It was a shame that I couldn’t be as forward with his audience as he was. If I could have been, then I would have revealed to his fellow students that he wasn’t exactly “finished” with this class. The facts that his attendance history restricted him from missing anymore school and that we have two more instructional days, plus a final to take ensured that he was making a jack-a-ninny last day speech a bit too soon.
Also, he needs like a 98 on his final, and it’s not like I posted the study guide on Xbox Live, so I think he’ll be repeating this experience all over again. Heh. Sorta like playing an Xbox game.
