Do you know what I hate just as much as fundraisers? Seasonal food drives.
No, I’m not the Grinch. It’s just that I’ve got 30 e-mails from 30 different club sponsors asking me to donate turkeys and canned goods to their individual food drives. Can’t we have one big ass event instead of bringing a can of cranberry sauce to the science lab on Monday between 7:00 and 7:10 am, a can of biscuits to the gym on Tuesday between 7:05 and 7:15 am and a turkey to the natatorium after school on Friday? What am I supposed to do with a frozen turkey all day at school?!
And what’s with STUCO turning an act of charity into a contest by offering a pizza party to the 1st period class that donates the greatest amount of food? There’s nothing like competition to inject a little umph into the giving spirit.
Here’s an idea. Why don’t you give the pizza to the needy? You know, the ones we're doing this for in the first place.
