Vote or Die
Today's the day for the students to vote for the Homecoming Court. Every year just about every student asks the same question--"What if we don't to vote?" That never changes. What has changed over the years is how I have replied to that tired question.
Years 1-2: "Sure you want to vote. Your classmates will appreciate your participation."
Years 3-4: "Well, you don't have to, but you might look back one day and regret that you didn't."
Years 5-6: "Oh don't do that. Please vote."
Now: "I don't care."
And I don't even wait for them to finish. I just cut them off and slap a ballot in front of them.
I wonder what will happen next year. Maybe I'll just say, "Shut it!"
Tune in next year to find out. That is, if I make it.
