Hail to the Chief
Yesterday was another MLK/professional development day. There’s nothing really exciting to report about yesterday.
Today, though, is Inauguration Day. Today is pretty historical, right? I mean no matter how the election resulted, it would have been historical—the first African American President of the United States, the first Female Vice President of the United States.
It’s strange because the whole thing doesn’t seem historic. I mean it obviously is, but…. Hmm, how do I put this? Okay, take the Super Bowl two years ago—the media had a boner over the fact that the NFL had its first black head coach to win. Now, I’m not saying that there hasn’t been much ado about Obama, but I couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Tony Dungy story. In two short years, having the first black leader of the free world doesn’t seem as, uh, climatic.
That’s a pretty good reflection on society though, right? A single generation has gone from looking down at to leaning on a black man to lead them. Or, is it that the NFL is more important than the state of our country?
Who cares? To quote somebody: “Change is good.”
Somebody has said that, right?
